How It Started

Angels for the Journey began in March 2021, when I was watching families in Southeast Asia lose their children's education to problems that were entirely solvable: an unpaid exam fee, a missing uniform, a parent's medical bill that swallowed the school money.

We started small, sending support directly to single-parent households, and grew into a network that today accompanies students across the Philippines, Cambodia, and Laos.

What We Actually Do

The core of the work is unglamorous and direct: tuition assistance, school supplies, uniforms, and exam fees, delivered consistently so a family can plan around them. As of mid-2026, we have delivered 186 supports to students.

When a family crisis threatens schooling, we provide emergency support too: food, hygiene items, and medicine. The principle is simple. A child should not drop out of school because of a bad month at home.

One Student

The moment that best captures what this work can become: Chanra Hun, a student from Cambodia we guided through the U.S. college application process, was admitted to Reed College in Portland with the Continental Scholarship. One student, one admission letter, and an entirely different set of doors open for the rest of a life.

A Youth-Driven Network

Angels for the Journey is run with high school and university volunteers who fundraise in Korean schools, run international pen pal programs, host cultural exchange workshops, and teach free academic support sessions over Zoom. The students being supported and the students supporting them are, deliberately, the same generation.
